Yesterday was our monthly storytelling group, The Homespun Storytellers. Many poems were read in honor of Poetry Month. CarpeBanana has been something of an influence around here. Marina read Abdul Abulbul Amir and Chase recited Multiplication is my Vexation, which I'm pretty sure we also read on her site. He also recited The Jabberwocky. The kids also recited or read from Jon Scieszka's Science Verse this month, as well as poems by Ogden Nash and A.A. Milne.

The flowers they used.
Taking a closer look.
And as if this weren't enough, tonight was our Family Poetry Night at the library. We had a wonderful turnout with a nice mix of children and adults. My family started the night with our own poetry. I read my own as well as a few by Marina. Hubby read Chase's poem. My mother came and read some poems she wrote about her mammogram and retirement. After that, many took turns coming up to read their own work, or work from favorite poets. We had quite a mix here too. Ogden Nash's Custard the Dragon, Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat, Longfellow's The Wreck of the Hesperus, and many others. I juggled while reciting The Jabberwocky and Marina ended the evening with Abdul Abulbul Amir (because if you're going to take the time to memorize a poem, you might as well recite it at every opportunity!)
