Home Spun comic strip #400

Home Spun comic strip #400

Every week I amaze myself by coming up with ideas, but some weekends my brain is a bit overloaded. This week's three strips were an eleventh hour inspiration. This week is already promising to be busy (when is it not?), so I'm asking for a little help. Do you have a favorite answer to a common homeschool question? Tell me! If I use your answer in a strip, I will give you credit and link to your blog!

Once again you you struck the proverbial nail on the head! I absolutely love your comic strips and appreciated your thoughts on "more." I've had to slow down our schedules in order to get rid of some undue stress. Cramming more things into our lives is not worth the damage it causes. We're still very busy (we are a family, you know), but we are now happier with some free time...imagine that!

Have a fabulous week. :)

Your strip is perfect:-)

When people say, "oh, I don't know how you do it," I always tell them about when Luke (now 9) was a very unhappy schooled first-grader, made physically sick by the pressure to memorize and be on somebody else's schedule.
I say, "I don't know how I fought with him for hours each night to finish his (first grade!) homework, or how I hauled him out of bed, shoveled food down his gullet, and got him out the door each day for school... we are all so much happier without that in our lives anymore!"

Cheers,
Karen

The kids get asked a lot, with a smirk, "Do you like your teacher?" when people find out that they are homeschool. Well, what are they suppose to say, I am standing right there!

Lately I've come across a few things that people keep asking me. 'Where do you get your materials?' or the very similar 'do they send you the books?' For the first time ever I was asked 'Oh, how much money do they send you to homeschool?' And finally, there's the ever popular 'How often do they check on you?' Funny enough, but they don't check on homeschoolers around here :-S

Unfortuantely, I don't have any great answers. I'm still trying to figure out who they are. Do people mean the government, the school board or the child protective services?

Lately my brain has been fried so I usually just stammer out a basic reply to people when they ask these most brilliant questions. I'd love to have a snappy, clever response. Perhaps I should just ask people who these elusive they people are.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of this week's strips.

When I was homeschooled it was just a surprise to everyone. I guess they expected I'd be weird....and they never took the time to figure out that I started that way. LOL

Right now - the common question I hear is "Are your kids out of school today?" -- Well, we homeschool and ---- decided to take a field trip to the STORE!!! or the Shoe Store or pediatrician's office....

Heck! Everywhere we go is a field trip!!! :-D

Yes...sarcasm is often the best response. THough you can tell if the person is being genuinely interested and not hateful. I'll not be sarcastic to the nice person. :-D

I don't have any answers myself - but I do like the Bitter Homeschooler's List. =Þ

And your mother is right - the detail in your cartoons is fabulous. =)
