Home Spun comic strip #297

Home Spun comic strip #297

I'm a little afraid to put the tree up this year. We don't have babies anymore, but we do have five cats this year. Last year, Hobgoblin managed to tangle one of his legs in the lights. Since he could touch the floor with another foot, he hung there spinning, which made the cord tighter. It took me several minutes to unwind him while he complained loudly. The tree was also used as "base" in many games of "cat tag" between Hobgoblin and Merlin.

I have not had much to do with tree decorating the past few years. Since Marina figured out how to put our tree together, I've taken a position of supervisor. Some years we invite fellow homeschoolers over for a hot chocolate and tree trimming party. This usually happens on our last storytelling day of the year. I've been known to put out supplies of candy canes, pipe cleaners, beads, anything that can be twisted into an interesting decoration. I don't give direction, I just let them loose with their creativity. Needless to say, our tree is somewhat cluttered and chaotic but always interesting. A fine reflection of our life!

LOL! I've been there! Last year I put some yarn balls and tassels around the bottom of the tree, so that cat's would have something to play with and some jingle bells from about the middle of the tree up, so I'd hear it when they were climbing too high. Of course, what ended up keeping them away from the tree was when they finally knocked it over, and they were too scared to go near it again!

I love the trees that show young children helped decorate - you know - bottom heavy? :)
Love your cat names

I think our cats are cut out of the same cloth. "Patches" got her tail twisted in the "child-safe" window-blinds string, and was hanging and spinning just as your cat was. I was afraid to untangle her (she was hissing and screaming), so I wrapped her in a towel and cut the cord with scissors! I should have taken the time and untangle her like you did. Meowy Christmas!

Oh my, I'm just imagining how it looked when Hobgoblin (what a great name! =D) was tangled in the lights. Oh I shouldn't laugh as the poor chap complained loudly....but I'm afraid I have to. Heartily.

A cluttered chaotic tree is the best. It's also wonderful when the little children help to decorate and there's a patch of the tree down low that's STUFFED with ornaments and bare places elsewhere. Then the tree is really perfect. =)

Those are the best kind of trees! Cluttered and chaotic with all the looks of the holiday. They are the best. The asymmetrical trees are just boring.

What a fun idea! I'd love to see that homespun tree. Thanks for submitting to the Carnival of Homeschooling.
