And Wear Old Clothes

Well, we finally did the Mentos and Diet Coke experiment. It's something I've been wanting them to try for a long time. Maybe I should have waited bit longer. Meh. They had fun.

Some of my notes on this experiment:

-Don't let the youngest child handle pouring in the Mentos, no matter how much she begs. Better yet...
-Invest in the little tube with the pin that you can attach to a long string. That way they can stand further back.
-Seltzer definitely doesn't work. We're not sure why yet. It might be something about the flavoring and sugar in the water making it fizz slower.

So here's the video. Enjoy.

Please do this experiment again when I visit. What chemicals were involved? It may help me give up Diet Coke. Love Grandma

Oh that was AWESOME! That's what my sons said. =) Thanks for the blog visit today! We did Alka Seltzer & Vinegar rockets with the big kids when they were little, but it was our teenage son who told me about Diet Coke & Mentos (of course he and his friends had already done it). My younger guys are now looking forward to trying it themselves! LOL I hope your girlie got a shower afterward! :D

Hahahaha! That. Was. AWESOME! Just love it when science get messy.

We drilled a hole in our cap, used a needle and thread to thread through the mentos, held the thread through the cap, then backed off a good way before we dropped it.

Didn't explode half as good as yours. I would have preferred to have that fabulous explosion and get messy rather than the fizzler we had.

BTW, your son has fabulous dimples.

Awesome!!
We're taking a rocket science class at our library, and tomorrow we are going to turn four 2-liter bottles into two bottle rockets - with luck we might have a video like yours posted soon :-)
