Sometimes inspiration is simple.
Last year, I bought a dry erase board. It's a small purple rectangle. I like purple. I put it in the bathroom under our calendar. I didn't explain it. Every now and then, I write on it or draw on it. Then I leave it to see what happens.
Sometimes nothing happens. I erase it and put something else up. Sometimes it's a question. Maybe a math problem. Or a quote I like. (click to enlarge)

We were reading a lot of teen fantasy that featured Death characters. That stirred a discussion about anthropomorphic personification. |

I started this board with the seven times table. I was going for mathematical patterns. Sierra added the 4 and 6 times table visual math circle. The small circle is the 3 and 7 times tables. (See rightbrainmath.com ) |

I think I started this with the common x problems. Another homeschooler gave me the idea about writing a story using random words. |

More fun with math. |
I never direct them about what to put on the board. They might work out the problems or answer the questions. Sometimes it's just something to stare at in the bathroom. I also have no idea what our guests think of this. None of them have added to the board. Yet.

I enjoyed this post, and the inspiration of it. But the entire time I was reading it I was distracted. Why?
Because the fourth sentence was this:
I put it in the bathroom under our calendar.
You keep your calendar in the bathroom? I'd love to hear more about that!
I am so glad you put this post up. You have no idea how many times I wanted to write on the purple board (esp. the math problems). Love, Mom/Grandma
Anonymous: It's the easiest way for me to keep track of things. I can see what day it is while I'm brushing my teeth and remember what I need to do. I also get so many calendars from different environmental groups I have enough for each room. :o)
I really like that idea. It's good that it's purple too. Is purple one of the colours that stimulates creativity or am I making a mistake?
Paula: It looks like it is. I just did a search about it. I never knew that! I just like purple. :o)
Very cool!
