Home Spun comic strip #275

Home Spun comic strip #275

I am going to be completely honest now. If I can't get into a book I've chosen for my children's subjects, I'm less inclined to use it. Which means they are less inclined to study that particular subject. I like to find material that teach basic subjects in unique ways. Like Nitty Gritty Grammar and Laugh 'n' Learn Spanish, which both teach using comic strip examples. Or the Pop Culture and Philosophy series that uses Star Wars, Harry Potter, Narnia, etc. to explain the concepts of different philosophical teachings. My latest addition is the Life of Fred series (hat tip to Vicki) which offers a new way of looking at higher math concepts. My theory is that if it is interesting, they will learn more and search out more information on their own.

So, what do you thing about the life of Fred? Does it teach the concepts and review them well enough for it to be a stand-alone Math curriculum, or is it a supplement?

I read about "Fred" on Vicki's blog and I thought it was intriguing. Please post again, after you've used it awhile. And I agree with you - if I don't like a book, it's no fun to use it with the kids.

Hey, we just hatched 5 triops! It's been interesting and I told the kids that you had grown quite fond of your triops (do you remember writing that?) so you have been talked about quite a bit in the last few days. My daughter asked if you still had yours and I said that it had been quite awhile ago so probably not.

Anyway, have a terrific week!
