Home Spun comic strip #299

Home Spun comic strip #299

If anyone missed it, last Saturday was the peak of the Geminid meteor shower. This had me reminiscing about all of our stargazing activities over the years. My favorite was the year I was pregnant with Sierra and I took Marina outside to watch the Leonids. We bundled up and Marina sat on my lap in a lawn chair in the yard. I remember feeling the small life inside me squirm and kick at her big sister as we watched. The Leonids were spectacular that year. We spotted many shooting stars, including a huge orange meteor that streaked across the dark sky.

The Geminids were a bit subdued this year because of the bright glow of an extra full moon. The full moon was unusually large because its waxing coincided with its perigee. That means it was full at the same time it was as close to the Earth in its orbit as it could get. If the moon hit your eye like a big pizza pie on Friday, that's why! I'll talk more about our meteor adventures later this week.

That sounds spectacular! We never get those meteor showers, but I did notice the extra full moon. I didn't know about the coinciding of the waxing & orbit, though. Fascinating.
Blessings,
Paula

I didn't know about the meteor shower but I did see the moon and it was gorgeous! Love the first panel, the way her hair looks and how she holds the paper. You are good, girl! Love, Mom
