Of Homecomings and Cameras

A long time ago, before I had children, I went to Europe with my husband. We brought one camera, an "old-fashioned" film camera I had bought for ten dollars at Woolworth. It was a good camera considering the price, but it was dropped once too often during our travels. I didn't realize my shutter wasn't closing completely until we returned home and I had the film developed. Hardly any of the photos came out. The ones that did were severely overexposed. I couldn't barely fill a fraction of my photo album for the trip. I ended up supplementing it with postcards and brochures. I'm still waiting for my return trip. Next time, I'll bring two cameras. And I'll make sure they both work before we leave.

My son is home after his whirlwind tour of Italy and Greece. I think the trip made an impression on him. Unfortunately, it ended with him gaining a cold and forgetting his camera on the plane. I let him rest this weekend to deal with the jet lag and to recover. He still has some sniffles. On the plus side, the jet lag has made him an earlier riser. We are still in the process of trying to find the camera, so any good thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated. He used the camera on the plane to take pictures through the window and left it behind when they landed. Luckily for Chase, his aunt had her camera too--they learned from my mistake--but he had been experimenting with the settings on his, and we really wanted to see the results of his work. I suppose I should have suggested he use both cameras!

He did manage to do some filming on his iPod. We'll see if we can post some of the footage to YouTube once he feels better. In the meantime, here is a picture of him taking a picture with the lost camera in Rome.

I'm SO sorry about Chase's camera! I will definitely pray for it to be returned to you - you never know! Hope he is feeling better. I also just read your post about your ice cream man. Oh, I'm sad with you. Hard to understand when something like that happens but you have good memories. I'm sure he enjoyed your family as much as you did him. Looking forward to hearing a bit more about Chase's trip, what a great opportunity for him! - Kate

I do hope Chase gets his camera back somehow. He must be so disappointed. But what a magnificent adventure he had. :-)

Fingers crossed that some kind soul returns the camera. Poor Chase! Glad his aunt has at least some photos to share with him. Did you guys have an "If lost please return to" text file on the memory card? I always put one on with email and snail mail addresses, along with a note that I care more about the memories than the camera, would love to have both back, but would be forever grateful if I got the memory card back at least, and that a small reward is available. So far I've been lucky enough not to test how effective this might be, but I guess it's worth a try...

Chele: I had no idea you could do that with the memory card! My sister also suggested that next time I should have him bring a USB and download photos to the Cloud with his iPod. All this new technology, I wish I had thought of some of these things ahead of time!
